Point of you
Kestus: 30min
Kert Ridaste/Jakobe Geens Kert ja Jakobe on koos töötanud tsirkuse koolis Fontys- Academy for Circus and Performance art kolme aastat. Me väljendame oma mŏtteid läbi loomalike liigutuste. |

Kert (Estonia) and Jakobe (Belgium) are an upcoming hand to hand duo, that are currently studying at Academy for Circus and Performance Art (ACaPa) in Tilburg, Holland. Kert and Jakobe started working together in September 2012.
The show is inspired by Eugène Ionesco’s play “Rhinoceros”.
Kert & Jakobe will work with Elkevan de Casteele, who was interested in their work as they started with this project. She will work with them as coach and external observer. Guus van den Heuvel, a music student at Fontys in Tilburg, will compose the music. The team expect to learn a lot about the theatre of the absurd and the topic of fascism.
"it's closer to us than we think. We are interested in how to translate written words into movements. We learn how to commit ourselves in the piece. We will not have a rhino costume, but we will try to create the characteristics of animals with our body and movements."
About Ionesco's work:
Ionesco is often considered a writer of the Theater of the Absurd. Best known as a playwright, but the theater were not his first focus. He started with writing poetry and criticism, publishing in several Romanian journals.
He combines abstract ideas with concrete humour. Ionesco breaks the fourth wall of the theater to make the audience leave the theater with the feeling that the absurdity they witnessed was somehow more real than a realistic play.
It is a philosophical understanding of life and meaning.
The absurd play reminds us of our isolation despite being surrounded by society and culture.
Ionesco’s main reason to write his text was not simply to criticize the horrors of Nazis, but to explore the mentality of those who so easily succumbed to it.
He reminds us not to get rolled up in a snowball of generalizations. He reminds us not to automatically think what others are thinking. It’s a story that fits in all times.
Jakobe Geens: "And it shouldn't be forgotten. It is an actual topic because of Ukraine and North-Korea, but also because of smaller things like 'everybody my age is having babies and I'm not', and so much more…."
